Crawdaunt (Pokémon)

Multiple Crawdaunt appeared under the command of Team Aqua Grunts, with the first appearing in Stairway to Devon, which also marked the species' debut. They made further appearances in Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire.

In Unfair Weather Friends, Shelly used two Crawdaunt in a battle against Team Aqua's rival Team Magma. One of them was used to fight Brodie and his Ditto while taking over the Weather Institute, but it had trouble defeating its duplicate.

In On Olden Pond, Mr. Saridakis used a Crawdaunt to terrorize a lake.

In Strategy With a Smile!, Kyle entered a Crawdaunt in the Battle Stage of the Wallace Cup, battling against Dawn and her Piplup, but it was eventually defeated.

In a flashback in A Fiery Training Camp Trick!, a Crawdaunt battled Kiawe's Turtonator before he caught it. With its new Trainer's help, Turtonator was able to defeat Crawdaunt. In the present day, the same Crawdaunt battled Sophocles and his Vikavolt and was eventually defeated by Savage Spin-Out. Kiawe revealed that he asked Crawdaunt to assist Sophocles to master the Z-Move.

A Crawdaunt appeared in a fantasy in Going for a Spinda.

A Coordinator's Crawdaunt appeared in Deceit and Assist.

In Up Close and Personable!, a Crawdaunt was living at the lake near the Pokémon Summer Academy.

In Battling The Generation Gap!, a Coordinator's Crawdaunt competed in the Performance Stage of the Celestic Contest.

In Strategy Begins at Home!, Team Rocket was fishing for Goldeen at a lake where a Crawdaunt was.

A Crawdaunt appeared in JN088.

A Team Aqua Grunt had a Crawdaunt in Two Groups Attacking! Magma VS. Aqua.

In Stick This in Your Craw, Crawdaunt I, a wild Crawdaunt is seen ambushing Mr. Briney and injuring his Wingull's beak. It was subdued by Kiki's Double-Edge attack and fell victim to her Cute Charm before being tied up by Ruby, though he pretended that it wasn't his work, as at this point he still hated battling.

In Xerneas Gives, Tierno's Corphish evolved into a Crawdaunt while battling Mable's Houndoom.

Crawdaunt is available in Sword and Shield and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

While Crawdaunt's name and appearance suggest that it is based on a red swamp crayfish (with its aggressive behavior reminiscent of the species' hardiness and status as an invasive species), it seems to bear a heavier resemblance to the lobster, a theory backed up by its size and Dark-typing.

Crawdaunt's shell may be based on batesian mimicry in association with Sharpedo, as it resembles an open shark mouth with a star on the nose.

Crawdaunt is a combination of crawdad or crawfish (alternate names for a crayfish) and daunt (to cause to lose courage) or taunt.

Shizariger is a combination of シザー shizā (scissors) and ザリガニ zarigani (crayfish).
