Larvitar (Pokémon)

Larvitar made its main series debut in Hatch Me If You Can. In the episode, Ash had a Larvitar that he hatched from an Egg given to him by Professor Elm, intended to be delivered to its mother living on Mt. Silver. Despite not being able to learn Harden in the games, it constantly used it when approached by anyone other than Ash or Pikachu prior to Mother of All Battles.

Larvitar debuted in Pikachu's PikaBoo. Pikachu and its friends invited it and its own friends to a game of hide-and-seek, though Larvitar refused. Later, it felt left out and viciously kicked a rock at a lawnmower, which went ridiculously haywire, though the situation was eventually resolved.

In Pinch Healing, a Larvitar was being babysat by a Poké-Sitter named Matt. Ash and his friends decided to help him with his job. The Larvitar was particularly shy and would use Sandstorm when confronted. By the end of the episode, however, it warmed up to the group, particularly May.

In The Mystery of the Missing Cubchoo!, a Larvitar befriended Chris's Cubchoo and joined his team at the end of the episode.

In Off the Unbeaten Path, a Trainer's Larvitar participated in the Pokémon Orienteering competition.

In Three Jynx and a Baby!, Jessie's fantasy featured a Larvitar.

A Larvitar appeared in Not on MY Watch Ya Don't!.

A Larvitar appeared in Jessie's fantasy One Big Happiny Family!.

In Challenging a Towering Figure!, a Trainer's Larvitar battled Dawn's Piplup during the Festival Battle Challenge.

A Larvitar appeared in Meloetta's Moonlight Serenade.

Multiple Larvitar appeared in The Power of Us, with three under the ownership of different Trainers and the rest appearing during a flashback.

Crystal's Arcanine, Archy, was attacked by a Larvitar and injured five years prior to Slugging It Out With Slugma, causing him to go on a rampage until Crystal calmed him down. In Lively Larvitar, Larvitar re-encountered Crystal when she returned to Mt. Mortar. It tormented her and Archy until her newly-evolved Bayleef, Megaree, defeated it, allowing her to catch it and regain her shattered confidence from failing to catch Suicune earlier.

In the Trick Master's flashback in The Final Battle V, a Larvitar was calmed down by the homeland soil.

A Larvitar appeared in Out-Odding Oddish, under the ownership of a Pokéathlon participant.

A Trainer's Larvitar appeared in The Final Battle: Crushed Ambition.

A Larvitar appeared in GDZ51.

A Larvitar appeared in GDZ53, under the ownership of Nagi.

In Pokémon GO, Larvitar can be obtained by completing 2/6 of the Special Research, An Inter-egg-sting Development. It can also be obtained by completing the Special Research, A Seven-Colored Shadow.

Larvitar appears to share similarities with dinosaurs. Its penchant for eating mountains, fences, or probably anything else may also come from the legend of the Tarasque.

Larvitar appears to be derived from larva.

Yogiras may be a combination of 幼児 yōji (baby or child) or 幼生 yōsei (larva) and 嫌い kirai (hate). Giras may derive from Gojira, the Japanese name for the character Godzilla, or Angiras, the Japanese name for the character Anguirus. Both are dinosaur-like tokusatsu movie monsters that share some characteristics with Tyranitar, its evolution.
