Egg Pokémon (Masters)

Eggs (Japanese: タマゴ Egg) were first introduced by Professor Bellis in Pokémon Masters EX on April 27, 2020. They provide an additional method for the player character to form sync pairs. The player receives their first Egg as a gift from Professor Bellis with the player choosing an Egg of Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. Eggs can also be obtained from the Training area or from special Egg events that feature time-limited Egg Pokémon of certain types. Eggs were also previously obtainable from the Battle Villa and Main Story.

Egg in Pokémon Masters EX

Mechanics

Bellis's lab

Eggs can be obtained in three rarities—1★, 2★, and 3★. To hatch an Egg, it must first enter an incubator. Then, after the player waits for 6, 8, and 12 hours, respectively, and fills the egg's hatch gauge by completing at least three battles while that incubation occurs, the Egg will hatch. However, if an Egg's incubation time passes without the hatch gauge being full, then that Egg will stay in its incubator until enough completed battles fill that gauge.

The Eggstreme Pass was later introduced as part of Version 2.15.0*. At the cost of 500 paid gems, the pass will half the time in which all eggs hatch, even those already in incubators.

Up to four Eggs can be incubated at a time in Bellis's lab with only one incubator being unlocked for free at the beginning. An additional incubator can be purchased for 300 paid gems. By purchasing the Eggcelerator Pass, which costs 500 paid gems, the player gets 14-day access to the third incubator and an auto-incubate feature. The fourth incubator is only available during Egg events (for 14 days), but it's always free. Plus, if the third/fourth incubator would disappear but it still holds an egg, then that incubator will stay until that egg hatches instead.

All other Eggs yet to be incubated are stored in the Egg Box, where up to eight can be stored at one time (four of these require purchase of the Egg Box Expansion, which costs 120 paid gems). When an incubator becomes available, the player manually chooses which Egg to enter it next. If the player has the auto-incubate feature while all incubators are full, then the player can choose up to four Eggs that will automatically enter available incubators starting with the first chosen Egg. This feature can even expand the duration of the third incubator's presence if an Egg selected for auto-incubation would enter that incubator. (This does not work on the fourth incubator, though.)

Egg Pokémon

When an Egg hatches, the Egg Pokémon is stored in the Day Care, where up to 500 Pokémon (100 prior to Version 2.4.0* and 200 prior to Version 2.10.0*) can be stored. Once a player forms a sync pair with an Egg Pokémon, that Pokémon will be taken out of the Day Care. There is no limit to the number of sync pairs the player can form, but only one of each hatched species can be part of an active sync pair at a time. If the player forms a new sync pair with an Egg Pokémon while being in a sync pair with another Egg Pokémon of the same species, then the formerly paired species will return to the Day Care.

With the exception of the gift Kanto Starter Pokémon received from Professor Bellis (which all have Strike roles), Egg Pokémon can have Strike, Support, or Tech roles. The move sets and passive skills of each pair are different depending on their role. All Eggs hatch with one through three passive skills. Shiny Pokémon always have three passive skills, but all Shiny variants of each species can only have one specific role. (For examples, all Shiny Bulbasaur have Strike roles, all Shiny Charmander have Support roles, and all Shiny Squirtle have Tech roles.)

Egg Pokémon in the Day Care can be donated to Professor Bellis's lab. Each donated Pokémon gives the player one Egg Research Ticket that can be exchanged in the shop for Egg-related items, including 1★ Berry Tarts and Power-Ups.

Egg Pokémon can also be nicknamed unlike other sync pairs.

Egg Events

Normally, only 3★ Eggs are available. However, during limited-time Egg Events, Eggs of all three rarities become obtainable. These events last for 14 days, and the fourth incubator turns active for just as long. While these events' run, all eggs normally obtainable from the Training area temporarily become inaccessible, and the player can only get new ones from the events' battles or its missions.

All Egg Events feature two sets of Egg Pokémon: the minor and major sets. Egg Pokémon in the minor set cannot be Shiny, but they have the highest chances of having three passive skills if they hatch from 1★ or especially 2★ Eggs. Egg Pokémon in the major set, however, can be Shiny, with 3★ Eggs giving them the highest chances of being that or just having three passive skills.

Strengthening Egg Pokémon

All hatched Pokémon start Level 1 and move level 1, and with the exception of the 3★ gift Kanto Starter Pokémon received from Professor Bellis, all hatched Pokémon also start at 1★ Potential. Much like other sync pairs, the Potentials of sync pairs formed with Egg Pokémon can be increased with Power-Ups, including 1★ and 2★ Power-Ups that are used exclusively for 1★ and 2★ sync pairs, respectively. Similarly, move levels of sync pairs formed with Egg Pokémon can be increased with Egg Move Candy. Plus, unlike other Move Candy, Egg Move Candy can be used on any Egg Pokémon no matter their role.

Each Egg Pokémon also has a stat called affinity, which starts at 1/3. Affinity can be raised to 2/3, 3/3, and maximum affinity using 1★, 2★, and 3★ Berry Tarts, respectively, with 20 Berry Tarts being required to reach each next level. Using one Berry Tart to raise affinity raises some of the Egg Pokémon's stats by one point each (or two points each if that stat is HP), depending on the role of that Pokémon.

  • Strike: raises HP, Attack, Sp. Atk, and Speed
  • Support: raises HP, Defense, Sp. Def, and Speed
  • Tech: raises Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, and Sp. Def

Certain Egg Pokémon may also evolve. Requirements for evolving Egg Pokémon are as follows:

  • First stage: Evolution Shard ×1; Level 30
  • Second stage: Evolution Crystal ×1; Level 45

Statistics

The stats of each Egg Pokémon is fixed depending on its stage in its evolutionary line and its role.

Pokémon that are not part of evolutionary lines

These are Pokémon that cannot evolve further in Pokémon Masters EX, such as Lapras. Also, Egg Pokémon in Pokémon Masters EX can only evolve into Pokémon that were introduced in Generation I, which makes Pokémon such as Onix and Porygon also belong in this category.

Sync pairs

Each Egg Pokémon with one passive skill always only gets the top-most one assigned to its role, and such Pokémon are the most common. Each Egg Pokémon with two passive skills always gets the top two skills assigned to its role, and such Pokémon are less common. Egg Pokémon with all three passive skills, especially Shiny Pokémon, are rare.

Details of three gift Kanto Starter Pokémon received from Professor Bellis, which all share their own set of rules, can be found here or here.

Default pool

These refer to the Egg Pokémon that are available when there is no concurrent Egg event. Several Pokémon have been added to default pool over time, including Kangaskhan, Lickitung, and some Pokémon from previous Egg events.

Trivia

  • Egg mechanics allow Scottie and Bettie to form sync pairs with two different Pikachu—one that has been with them from the start and another from an evolved Pichu that was hatched from an Egg.
    • Scottie and Bettie are the only trainers who can form multiple sync pairs with a Pokémon of the same species.
  • Out of all event-exclusive Pokémon that appeared in at least two events, Scyther has the biggest gap between its first two, which is 452 days.
    • No other returning Pokémon has an event gap that even reaches one year, but some were close (e.g., Grimer at 331 days and Pichu at 317).
  • Mankey is the event-exclusive Pokémon with the smallest gap between its first two events, which is 84 days.
