| Tanjiro Kamado lives with his family a happy and peaceful life in the snowy mountains, providing for them by selling charcoal at the nearby town. One day, he returns home only to find his entire family slaughtered in a demon attack, with the exception of his younger sister, Nezuko Kamado, who has begun to transform into a demon herself. A Demon Slayer, Giyu Tomioka, appears to kill Nezuko, but Tanjiro does his best to try and defend her. Surprised to see Nezuko resist her demonic urges and protect her brother, and impressed by Tanjiro's potential, he decides to spare her life, telling him to go find Sakonji Urokodaki on Mt. Sagiri. Tanjiro and Nezuko bury their family before departing. | ||||||

| Tanjiro and Nezuko make their way toward Mt. Sagiri when they encounter a demon residing in a nearby temple. They manage to successfully restrain it, but he finds himself hesitant to kill it, leaving it to burn in the sunlight. At this time, he meets Sakonji Urokodaki, who chastises him for his poor resolve and warns him about what will happen if Nezuko decides to kill a human. After letting Nezuko rest, Urokodaki puts Tanjiro through a test to prove his worthiness by climbing up and descending the hazardous and trap-infested Mt. Sagiri. Tanjiro succeeds in the task, and, after recalling the letter from Giyu requesting him to train Tanjiro to become a Demon Slayer, Urokodaki accepts him as his student. | ||||||
| 3 | 3 | "Sabito and Makomo" Transcription: "Sabito to Makomo" (Japanese: 錆兎と真菰) | Shinya Shimomura | April 20, 2019 | October 27, 2019 | |
| Tanjiro trains to become a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, being told that he must pass Final Selection to be recognized as one. He undergoes 1 to 1.5 years of harsh and strict training on the mountain, including learning about the "Total Concentration" and "Water Breathing" techniques. With everything to know laid out, Urokodaki gives Tanjiro one final task to allow him to partake in Final Selection, to slice an immense boulder. After another six months of failing to make a dent, he starts to lose hope when he is suddenly attacked by a fellow swordsman, Sabito, who criticizes him for his weaknesses. Another swordsman, Makomo, helps to train Tanjiro more, revealing that they both are former students of Urokodaki. Six more months of training conclude with a final spar, where Tanjiro successfully strikes Sabito. As the two commend him for his success and vanish in a haze, it is revealed his slash had actually sliced the boulder in half. | ||||||
| 4 | 4 | "Final Selection" Transcription: "Saishū Senbetsu" (Japanese: 最終選別) | Shinya Shimomura | April 27, 2019 | November 3, 2019 | |
| Urokodaki is shocked by Tanjiro's achievement of slicing the boulder, congratulating him for completing what he learned during this 2 to 2.5 years, and telling him to come back alive from Final Selection. He arrives alongside a group of others like him who aspire to be Demon Slayers, and they learn they must survive for seven days amongst demons trapped in the mountains. During his battles he encounters the "Hand Demon", a giant grotesque demon who he learns specifically targets the "children" of Urokodaki, having killed all of them, including Sabito and Makomo. Despite the demon nearly overwhelming Tanjiro, while keeping its neck protected, he manages to overcome his defenses and successfully slices its neck with his Water Breathing. | ||||||
| 5 | 5 | "My Own Steel" Transcription: "Onore no Hagane" (Japanese: 己の鋼) | Takashi Suhara | May 4, 2019 | November 10, 2019 | |
| The Hand Demon starts to fade away after being beheaded, and sensing a scent of sadness coming from the demon, Tanjiro prays for it to be reborn in a better life, also allowing the souls of Urokodaki's past students to be put to rest. Tanjiro survives the seven days of Final Selection and finds only three others have made it as well. One wrathful swordsman grabbed the girls hair and was scolded by Tanjiro after all. After receiving the ores needed to make their swords, Tanjiro returns to Mt. Sagiri where he reunites with Urokodaki and a reawakened Nezuko. A swordsmith named Haganezuka arrives shortly afterward to hand Tanjiro his sword, surprising everyone that it turns black. His Kasugai Crow soon appears to provide him with the details for his first mission, to investigate a town where young girls are being taken. | ||||||
| 6 | 6 | "Swordsman Accompanying a Demon" Transcription: "Oni wo Tsureta Kenshi" (Japanese: 鬼を連れた剣士) | Junichi Minano | May 11, 2019 | November 17, 2019 | |
| Tanjiro travels to the northwest village to investigate the case of the young girls who have been disappearing. There he meets Kazumi, whose fiancée is the latest victim, throwing him into despair. Tanjiro waits till night, when the demon makes its move against its next victim until he intervenes to rescue her. He discovers that the "Swamp Demon" not only possesses two other clones of himself but also can create puddles allowing them to appear from anywhere. Tanjiro struggles to protect Kazumi and the girl while also trying to throw killing blows at the demons, being overwhelmed until Nezuko intervenes, shocking the Swamp Demon that a demon is accompanying him. | ||||||
| 7 | 7 | "Muzan Kibutsuji" Transcription: "Kibutsuji Muzan" (Japanese: 鬼舞辻 無慘) | Takahiro Majima Masashi Takeuchi | May 18, 2019 | November 24, 2019 | |
| While Nezuko protects Kazumi and the girl, Tanjiro faces off against the Swamp Demon and his clones. Tanjiro jumps into the swamp where two of the clones hide and manages to defeat them with his Whirlpool form. Nezuko faces off against the final clone until Tanjiro arrives and corners it. He asks the demon about Muzan Kibutsuji, the original demon and the one capable of turning people into demons, but he refuses to tell him anything, terrified by Muzan's previous threats. After killing the demon, Tanjiro consoles Kazumi over his lost fiancée, before making his way to his next mission in Tokyo's Asakusa. Soon after arriving, Tanjiro detects a scent that was present in his house the day his family was killed. He follows it to a man with his wife and daughter, who turns out to be Muzan himself in disguise. While being confronted, Muzan turns a passerby into a demon in the crowd to make his escape. | ||||||
| 8 | 8 | "The Smell of Enchanting Blood" Transcription: "Genwaku no Chi no Kaori" (Japanese: 幻惑の血の香り) | Hideki Hosokawa | May 25, 2019[lower-alpha 3] | December 8, 2019 | |
| Muzan escapes as Tanjiro struggles with the demon, but not before hearing his vow to find him again. Muzan remembers a feared enemy from his past that had worn the same Hanafuda earrings he saw on Tanjiro, and tasks two demons, Susamaru and Yahaba, to track down and kill him. Meanwhile, Tanjiro is rescued by a demon named Tamayo, and a boy, Yushiro, revealing that she is a doctor with intentions of wanting to take down Muzan as well. Tanjiro and Nezuko are brought to Tamayo's place by the eccentric Yushiro, where through their discussion she reveals it could be possible to create a cure for becoming a demon, but she will need blood samples from demons Muzan has been in direct contact with to create it. Tanjiro resolves to accept this task when the four are suddenly attacked by a horde of temaris, controlled by Susamaru and Yahaba. | ||||||
| 9 | 9 | "Temari Demon and Arrow Demon" Transcription: "Temari Oni to Yajirushi Oni" (Japanese: 手毬鬼と矢印鬼) | Shinya Shimomura | June 1, 2019 | December 15, 2019 | |
| Susamaru uses her powerful temari to pummel the hidden house, revealing that she and Yahaba are members of the Twelve Kizuki, powerful demons that serve directly under Muzan. She decapitates Yushiro with one of her temari, and while he regenerates, Tanjiro struggles to dodge them, as they swerve in physically impossible directions and are difficult to slash. Yushiro helps him see the arrows that Yahaba is using to telekinetically control Susamaru's temari. Although Nezuko attacks Yahaba, the siblings are forced to change opponents, with Yushiro joining in to fight Susamaru using his Blood Demon Art to battle Susamaru. At first, Yahaba overpowers Tanjiro by altering his trajectory as he tries to get close, and Nezuko's leg is blown off by a temari. However, Tanjiro recalls his training and, despite his fatigue, unleashes a combination of forms to use the direction of Yahaba's arrows in his favor, closing the distance between him and beheading the demon. | ||||||
| 10 | 10 | "Together Forever" Transcription: "Zutto Issho ni Iru" (Japanese: ずっと一緒にいる) | Yūki Itō | June 8, 2019 | January 5, 2020 | |
| As Yahaba dies, he tries to kill Tanjiro once more by using his arrows to send him upward and fall to his death. Tanjiro is forced to use consecutive forms to lessen his impact and survives, albeit exhausted. Given a healing serum by Tamayo, Nezuko rejoins the battle and increases her strength, now able to match Susamaru's power. Tamayo uses her Blood Demon Art to lower Susamaru's alertness, causing her to accidentally say Muzan's name and triggering a curse that kills her. Tamayo realizes both demons are not of the Twelve Kizuki after examining Susamaru's eyeball, as they do not have a number on their eyes. Tanjiro laments over Muzan's cruelty, lying to demons and using their desperation in his favor. Though Urokodaki had hypnotized her into thinking humans are to be protected, Nezuko's recognition of Tamayo and Yushiro as humans causes Tamayo to cry out of thankfulness. The siblings depart for their next mission and Tanjiro encounters another Demon Slayer from Final Selection, harassing a woman into marrying him. | ||||||
| 11 | 11 | "Tsuzumi Mansion" Transcription: "Tsuzumi no Yashiki" (Japanese: 鼓の屋敷) | Shūji Miyahara | June 15, 2019 | January 12, 2020 | |
| Tanjiro stops the Demon Slayer, Zenitsu Agatsuma, from disturbing the woman. He reveals he hoped to die during Final Selection due to his weakness and low resolve. The two are directed by Tanjiro's crow to their next location, a large woodland mansion, where they see two children, Shoichi and Teruko, who tell him a demon is inside and has taken their brother. He and a reluctant Zenitsu enter, leaving Nezuko's box outside when the children unexpectedly enter too. They are then separated by the supernatural rooms, moving to the beat of a drum. Tanjiro, with Teruko, detects a large demon, the strongest one in the house. While looking for an exit, Zenitsu and Shoichi encounter another Demon Slayer, wearing a boar mask. Tanjiro witnesses the demon's Blood Demon Art, moving the room with the drums implanted in his body. At that moment, the boar-headed Demon Slayer enters, ready to attack. | ||||||
| 12 | 12 | "The Boar Bares its Fangs, Zenitsu Sleeps" Transcription: "Inoshishi wa Kiba wo Muki, Zenitsu wa Nemuru" (Japanese: 猪は牙を剥き、善逸は眠る) | Susumu Takeuchi | June 22, 2019 | January 19, 2020 | |
| The rogue Slayer attacks but is thwarted by the demon's Blood Demon Art. He argues with Tanjiro and nearly attacks him when the demon also shows its ability to cause powerful, invisible slashes with another drum in his body. Transported into another room, Tanjiro finds the siblings' oldest brother, Kiyoshi. Zenitsu is cornered with Shoichi by another demon and loses consciousness from fear. However, while asleep, he uses his Thunder Breathing to kill the demon instantly. After snapping back, Zenitsu believes it was Shoichi who defended him after seeing the demon's corpse on the ground and returns to being scared. The rogue Slayer also encounters a demon but quickly kills it. The Drum Demon, Kyogai, reveals his intentions to kill Kiyoshi for his blood and reclaim his place in the Twelve Kizuki, previously stripped of his rank by Muzan. After directing the siblings to safety, Tanjiro battles Kyogai and begins to adapt to his drums' particular movements. Despite not fully recovered, he recalls Urokodaki's lessons about Water Breathing's adaptability, motivating him to fight. | ||||||
| 13 | 13 | "Something More Important Than Life" Transcription: "Inochi Yori Daiji-na Mono" (Japanese: 命より大事なもの) | Yūsuke Shibata | June 29, 2019 | January 26, 2020 | |
| Kyogai, angered by Tanjiro's refusal to surrender, begins to attack erratically. He remembers his life as a drum player and composer, but his hobby was rebuked and mocked by others. Angered by the memories, he attacks Tanjiro more aggressively. Still injured, Tanjiro maintains his Water Breathing and successfully reaches Kyogai, decapitating him. As he fades, he hears Tanjiro acknowledge his Blood Demon Art but adds that he can't be forgiven for his murders. Kyogai, touched by his words, cries as he fades to ash, his drum playing finally recognized. He takes Kyogai's blood with a vial, giving the sample to Tamayo's cat who vanishes. Taking the siblings outside, he discovers Zenitsu, who had been thrown out of the house earlier, being kicked by the rogue Demon Slayer for protecting Nezuko's box. He reveals he had known all along Tanjiro had been carrying a demon in the box but perceived him as being so kind, there had to be a reason. Tanjiro defends him and attacks the rogue swordsman. | ||||||

| Tanjiro tries to stop the rogue Demon Slayer by breaking his ribs, but he fights back, despite the taboo of Demon Slayers harming one another. Fighting like an animal, he forces Tanjiro to retaliate; eventually, he head-butts him, causing the boar mask to fall off. Revealing a feminine and delicate face despite a strong and muscular body, he reveals himself as Inosuke Hashibira. He loses consciousness but wakes up later to the others burying the dead in the mansion. Tanjiro's Kasugai Crow then directs them to descend the mountain. Bidding the siblings farewell, the three travel to a house, where an elderly woman inside helps them rest and recover. Inosuke informs them the only reason he entered Final Selection was to test out his abilities on demons, and Zenitsu asks Tanjiro about his reason for carrying a demon, as Nezuko suddenly exits the box herself. Angered at Tanjiro for having a girl with him all this time, he chases Tanjiro without allowing him to explain. | ||||||
| 15 | 15 | "Mount Natagumo" Transcription: "Natagumo-yama" (Japanese: 那多蜘蛛山) | Yūki Itō Shinsuke Gomi | July 13, 2019 | February 9, 2020 | |
| After recovering fully, Tanjiro's crow informs the trio of their next mission on Mt. Natagumo. They bid the hosts farewell and travel to the mountain. However, when night falls, Zenitsu becomes scared and grows hesitant. They find another Demon Slayer but see him suddenly pulled back into the mountain. Inosuke decides to lead and Tanjiro follows, while Zenitsu stays put. They see the forest covered in spider webs and come across another Demon Slayer, Murata. He reveals ten of them were sent to the mountain but they began to spontaneously kill each other without warning. The three are attacked by the Demon Slayers but realize they are being puppeteered by the webs attached to them. They are met by a short, pale demon, demanding they leave his family or "Mother" will kill them. Needing a plan, Inosuke uses his Beast Breathing to pinpoint the location of a demon. Meanwhile, hearing about the numerous deaths, the Demon Slayer Corps send two Hashiras to assist, Giyu and Shinobu. | ||||||

| Murata stays behind to hold off the controlled Demon Slayers, while Tanjiro and Inosuke leave, only to come across the rest of them. The puppeteer demon, "Mother", is soon threatened by the demon from earlier, Rui, into killing them quicker or face reprimand. Terrified, she uses her puppets more desperately. Tanjiro and Inosuke discover how to stop the webs, but Mother kills them in anger. Enraged, Tanjiro decides to push onwards. They soon meet Mother's strongest puppet: a large, bladed, headless demon. Coordinating their breathing together, Tanjiro and Inosuke successfully kill the puppet. Inosuke then throws Tanjiro into the air where he spots Mother and descends to kill her. Initially scared, she realizes she would be freed from the abuse she has been suffering and surrenders. Seeing this, Tanjiro opts to use the gentlest Water Breathing form and give her peace. As thanks for blessing her final moments, she warns Tanjiro a member of the Twelve Kizuki is on the mountain. | ||||||

| In the forest, Zenitsu finds a spider with a human head. Fleeing, he enters a clearing and sees captured Demon Slayers transforming into spiders. "Son" of the Spider Family emerges, telling Zenitsu he has been bitten and will transform too. He futilely climbs a tree as Son taunts him. Zenitsu reminisces about his training, and how he repeatedly refused to train despite wanting to live up to his master's expectations. He loses consciousness and attacks, but Son repeatedly interrupts his form, revealed as the first and only form of Thunder Breathing he can do. Despite this, his master encouraged him to hone it to perfection. Zenitsu recalls when another student had berated him for his weakness and cowardice. Against all the pain throughout his life, his master's persistence and stewardship encouraged him to continue. He decapitates Son with his own variation of Thunder Breathing and attempts to slow the poison. Tanjiro and Inosuke come across "Daughter" and attack; she calls out to "Father" and he emerges from the forest to kill them. | ||||||
| 18 | 18 | "A Forged Bond" Transcription: "Nisemono no Kizuna" (Japanese: 偽物の絆) | Akihiko Uda | August 3, 2019 | March 1, 2020 | |
| Giyu and Shinobu arrive at Mt. Natagumo and split up to cover more ground. Tanjiro and Inosuke's blades are unable to cut Father's tougher skin; he eventually flings Tanjiro away, leaving Inosuke alone to fight, though he succeeds in cutting off a hand. Zenitsu, near death, is discovered by Shinobu. Tanjiro lands safely but sees Rui torturing Daughter over "family matters". He calls their familial bond fake, enraging Rui. Tanjiro battles him but is overwhelmed by his steel-like threads and is forced on the defensive. Rui, angered by his words and Tanjiro's refusal to back down, threatens to kill him slowly. Inosuke is soon overpowered by Father and is severely wounded, his swords break attempting to cut Father's neck. Grabbed by the head, he is slowly crushed when Giyu arrives to rescue him. When Father retaliates, the Hashira kills him instantly. Tanjiro tries a frontal attack against Rui, but his sword is sliced by an incoming thread. | ||||||
| 19 | 19 | "Hinokami" (Japanese: ヒノカミ) | Toshiyuki Shirai | August 10, 2019 | March 8, 2020 | |
| Impressed by Giyu, Inosuke challenges him but is denied. Shinobu gives Zenitsu an antidote, while the others are tended by Kakushi, trained assistants to the Demon Slayers. Barely dodging Rui's attack, Tanjiro's face is slashed. Overwhelmed, Nezuko enters the battle to save him. Seeing their bond, Rui declares her his new sister, rejecting Daughter. Revealing he is Lower Five of the Twelve Kizuki, he takes Nezuko and restrains her in threads. He taunts Tanjiro into beheading him, who fails to cut his skin. Using Water Breathing's last form, he successfully cuts the threads, but Rui strengthens new ones with blood. Using his Blood Demon Art, he traps Tanjiro in a cage of threads. Near death, he remembers his father, recalling how he would annually perform a night-long dance in frigid weather, using a special breathing style. Using the style, Hinokami Kagura, he destroys the cage and quickly overwhelms Rui. When he sends more threads, Nezuko uses her own Blood Demon Art, igniting her blood to burn them away. Using Nezuko's blood on his sword, Tanjiro beheads Rui. | ||||||
| 20 | 20 | "Pretend Family" Transcription: "Yose Atsume no Kazoku" (Japanese: 寄せ集めの家族) | Takashi Suhara | August 17, 2019 | March 15, 2020 | |
| An exhausted Tanjiro tries to reach Nezuko but discovers Rui had beheaded himself to avoid death. He prepares to kill Tanjiro once more but is stopped by Giyu. Despite using his strongest threads, he is defeated by Giyu's own form of Water Breathing. Daughter flees the forest, reminiscing on when she was found by Rui and asked to be his sister; he had recruited others into his family, assigning them different roles. However, his abuse caused conflict and pain among them. One night, one of her sisters attempted to escape but was found and killed by Rui. Daughter encounters Murata and ensnares him in an acidic cocoon. She is then met by Shinobu, who initially wants to befriend her but only after ruthlessly punishing her for murdering the Demon Slayers. She tries to fight back but is defeated by Shinobu's superior speed. Unable to behead demons, she wields a special sword laced with wisteria-based poison. She kills Daughter and frees Murata. As Rui's head falls, he sees Tanjiro hugging Nezuko and remembers he created his family to feel a familial bond. | ||||||
| 21 | 21 | "Against Corps Rules" Transcription: "Tairitsu Ihan" (Japanese: 隊律違反) | Takuya Nonaka | August 24, 2019 | March 22, 2020 | |
| Rui recalls his past; having a frail, weak body, he was confined indoors at all times. He was found by Muzan, who "pitied" and transformed him. His parents discovered he had devoured someone and tried to kill him. Rui kills them both but it is only afterward that he realized they truly loved him. However, Muzan pushed the contrary, driving him to be cold and ruthless. He crawls to Tanjiro, who comforts him after sensing his grief. Reunited with his parents in Hell, they forgive Rui, causing him to break down in tears. Giyu scolds Tanjiro for showing demons pity, but he defends them as hopeless, tragic creatures. Giyu remembers the siblings from before and defends them from Shinobu. While she and Giyu clash, Tanjiro flees with Nezuko but faces a girl trying to kill her. She knocks him unconscious but fails to kill her. A Kasugai Crow then announces that Tanjiro and Nezuko are to be taken to the Demon Slayer Headquarters, while Inosuke and Zenitsu are taken as well to recover. Later, Tanjiro awakens to find himself in front of the Hashira. | ||||||

| Tanjiro is trialled by the Hashira, the strongest of the Demon Slayer Corps, for carrying Nezuko. They discuss amongst themselves whether he should be executed, alongside Giyu who defended him, but Shinobu tells them not to be hasty. Tanjiro explains Nezuko's situation, which they discredit, claiming it to be his bias. They are joined by the harsh and aggressive Sanemi Shinazugawa, who stabs Nezuko through her box, causing an altercation between him and Tanjiro. Entering the scene, their revered master, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, informs them he has sanctioned Tanjiro's situation. When the Hashira still disagree, he reveals a letter from Urokodaki, the former Water Hashira, explaining that Nezuko is fully capable of resisting humans and he, Giyu, and Tanjiro would kill themselves should it happen. Kagaya reveals that Tanjiro has also met Muzan Kibutsuji and that he was directly targeted by demons sent by him. Though the Hashira realize his importance, Sanemi nonetheless still objects to housing a demon and aims to prove Nezuko can't be trusted. He slices his forearm, stabs Nezuko twice more, and taunts her with his blood. She emerges from her box and stares at him, salivating. | ||||||
| 23 | 23 | "Hashira Meeting" Transcription: "Chūgō Kaigi" (Japanese: 柱合会議) | Ken Takahashi | September 7, 2019 | April 5, 2020 | |
| In front of everyone, Nezuko shows she is able to resist Sanemi's taunts, with Kagaya seeing this as direct proof, and though he knows some won't accept this, he tells Tanjiro he recognizes both as Demon Slayers. Tanjiro vows to kill Muzan, though Kagaya tells him to start small by killing a Kizuki demon first. With his trial finished, the siblings are taken by the Kakushi to Shinobu's estate, the Butterfly Mansion, to recover. They encounter Shinobu's protegeé, Kanao Tsuyuri, who Tanjiro recognizes as the girl from Final Selection. Inside he reunites with Zenitsu and Inosuke, both still recovering from their previous battles. In a meeting, the Hashira reflect on the worsening damage caused by the demons and the less skilled new Demon Slayers. Kagaya notes that Rui's drastic actions mean that Muzan is most likely not near Mt. Natagumo since he always creates a diversion as he did in Asakusa. In the end, Kagaya recognizes them all as the strongest Hashira since the beginning and reaffirms his faith in them. Alone by himself, he vows they will kill Muzan Kibutsuji without fail. | ||||||

| After sufficient time in recovery, Tanjiro and Inosuke partake in rehabilitation but return from the sessions broken and exhausted, frightening Zenitsu. Later, he witnesses the unusual and difficult challenges involving rehabilitation. Initially motivated, Zenitsu and Inosuke quit after being unable to beat Kanao, leaving Tanjiro alone. The girls of the Butterfly Mansion; Sumi, Kiyo, and Naho, reveal Kanao's use of a different technique called Total Concentration Constant, as well as training with special gourds. Motivated, Tanjiro uses the mansion's surroundings as make-shift obstacles and attempts to maintain his breathing at all times. Shinobu appears, commending his spirit and entrusting him with her dream of peace between humans and demons. Tanjiro asks if she is angry despite always smiling. Shocked, Shinobu speaks of the pain of seeing the harm demons create; she tells him about her elder sister, who was sympathetic to demons like him. When she was killed, Shinobu tried to adopt her kind personality but struggled, seeing them as irredeemable. Hearing her trust in him, Tanjiro remembers the pain of his family's death and his promise to Nezuko. | ||||||

| After some time training, Tanjiro is able to equal Kanao's speed and blow up a gourd. Zenitsu and Inosuke see his improvement and consult Shinobu. After her explanation of its simplicity and unique motivation, all three are now driven to improve. While watching them train, Shinobu encourages Kanao to join. She flips a coin and remembers her past. Born to an abusive family, she broke psychologically for showing emotion. Sold into slavery, she was found by Shinobu and her sister Kanae, adopting her as a sister. Seeing first-hand her inability to form decisions, Shinobu becomes uncertain. Kanae refuses to give up and gives her a coin to help her. Having decided, Kanao walks away from the trio training. Tanjiro and Inosuke receive new swords from Haganezuka and Kanamori respectively, though both become angered at their work being mistreated. Soon, Tanjiro is the first to beat Kanao completely. During a physical exam, he asks Shinobu about his Hinokami Kagura. Unsure, she mentions he can ask the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku. Alone in his room, Tanjiro reaffirms his goal to aid Tamayo's research and return his sister's humanity. Nezuko unexpectedly encourages him, giving him hope. | ||||||

| Months later, following Rui's death, the remaining Lower Ranks are summoned into an interdimensional castle by a biwa-playing demon. They face Muzan's wrath, who informs them of Rui's death and denounces the Lower Ranks as weak, before killing them. However, he spares Lower One over his macabre personality and worship of him, giving him ample blood for strength; Muzan adds that he can attain more by specifically killing Tanjiro. In the present, a Kasugai crow tells the trio of their new mission to the Mugen Train, where 40 people have disappeared. He farewells the people of the mansion, including Kanao, who after explaining her process of flipping a coin to make personal choices, Tanjiro convinces to instead listen to the voice of her heart and decide herself. After his coin flip results in this decision, Kanao is smitten and shocked at Tanjiro's reassurance. He also thanks Giyu for his dedication to protect Nezuko. The three arrive at the train station, but Inosuke causes a commotion, attracting the police. They are forced to flee due to Demon Slayers not being recognized by the government, which is unaware that demons exist. They jump onto the train as it leaves, which has Kyojuro and Lower One on board. | ||||||
