Squallville PokéRinger

The Squallville PokéRinger (Japanese: ウインドポケリンガ Wind PokéRinger) is an anime-exclusive PokéRinger competition held annually in Squallville, Sinnoh. It was featured in Pursuing a Lofty Goal!.

The setting for the competition

Competition

Contrasting the Crossgate PokéRinger tournament held in Hoenn, the Trainers participating in the Squallville PokéRinger tournament are not grouped into blocks of four teams. Instead, the entire competition consists of one-on-one matches where contestants and their Pokémon must attempt to retrieve a ring and deliver it to one of three goal hooks on the goalpost located at the center of the battlefield. During a match, Pokémon may use their moves to prevent their opponents from completing this task.

Trainers give commands to their Pokémon from Poké Ball-shaped hot air balloons. The competition is a single-elimination tournament, thus contestants who lose a match are eliminated from the competition directly after their loss, while those who succeed move on to compete with a smaller pool of contestants. The overall winner receives a certificate from the mayor of Squallville granting honorary citizenship of the town, as well as a large supply of Pokémon food.

Ash and Paul participated with their Staravia and Honchkrow, respectively. James also entered with Jessie's Yanmega, but he lost in the very first round. Ash and Paul both made it to the final round, and during the match, Ash's Staravia evolved into Staraptor and won the tournament, marking Ash's first victory against Paul.

Similarly to the Pokémon Dress-Up Contest, the event is covered by the Sinnoh Now crew, with Rhonda serving as the announcer.
