List of distinct cell types in the adult human body

There is a lot of different estimates to how many cells the human body have in total.[1][2][3] The general conensus at the moment seem to be somewhere around 3.0·10^13 or 30 Trillion cells. This of course varies depening on the size and weight of a given human. These have been split into about 300 types of cells so far(of which about ~230 are listed here), based on location and function within the human body.

A Family tree including all the known human cells, However, not all cells are linked to their precursor or progenitor yet. A more extensive diagram made as a part of the HuBMAP project can be found at: https://hubmapconsortium.github.io/ccf-asct-reporter/vis?selectedOrgans=heart-v1.2,blood-v1.3&playground=false

There are many different types of cells in the human body.

Major efforts to map all human cells

Several efforts have been made to make a list or a map of all human cells,[5][6][7] one of the biggest and most recent is the HuBMAP(the Human BioMolecular Atlas Program),[8] they managed to organize 1551 sample across 17 collections. However this project still only mapped about 31 of the human bodies more then 70 organs. Their Datasets and visualisations place great emphasis on biomarkers and location in the body. But less on cell development and which cell become which over time.

The EU have attempted to map everything in the human brain,[9][10] however a lot of the areas in the model which is currently available does not have cellular resolution available.

Nervous system

There are nerve cells, also known as neurons, present in our human body. They are branched out. These cells make up nervous tissue. A neuron consists of a cell body with a nucleus and cytoplasm, from which long thin hair-like parts arise.
