The station, with a large 557 space park-and-ride lot, is located on the exclusive LRT right of way (adjacent to CPR right-of-way), 7.9 km south of the City Hall Interlocking, west of Macleod Trail.
The station consists of a center-loading platform with mezzanine access on the north end and an at-grade access at the south end.
As part of Calgary Transit's plans to operate four-car trains by the end of 2014, all three-car stations were extended. Construction at Heritage Station to extend the platform to the South started on July 16, 2012, and the new extended platform and ramp access opened on December 10, 2012.
South of the station, in "Haysboro Storage Facility" trains are stored.
In 2005, the station registered an average transit of 13,600 boardings per weekday.[1]
Crime
Heritage Station has been criticized for being a crime hotspot in the Calgary C-Train System. On a CityNews interview in January 2022 with Calgary Transit Lead Staff 'Stephen Tauro', it was listed as one of the 5 stations with an unusually high crime rate. The others being: Marlborough, Rundle, Southland and Sunalta Stations.[2]
During the month of March 2023, an underground drug operation along the Calgary C-Train system would get disrupted. Officers seized the substances of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, morphine and xanax. Multiple weapons such as 21 knives, two machetes, two hatchets, a handgun, and a can of bear spray were also seized by police. 40 people would get arrested between multiple stations, Heritage along with Franklin, Southland, Marlborough, Sunalta, Rundle, Whitehorn, Brentwood, Chinook, Crowfoot, 8th Street SW, Anderson, Dalhousie, Westbrook Stations would have arrests relating to the aforementioned drug trade.[3]
On the early morning hours of December 19th, 2010, two 15 year old teen boys came across a passed out 19 year old woman inside of the Heritage LRT Station. Investigators say one of the boys sexually assaulted her, with both of them robbing the woman.[4]
Police responded to Heritage LRT Station shortly before 1 PM on Friday February 28th, 2014. Stuart Brideeaux, a 14 year old boy, was transported to the Alberta Children’s Hospital after a stabbing to the torso.[5]
On Tuesday November 16, 2018, a suspect sat next to a teenage girl on a northbound train departing Heritage Station. After that, the suspect “touched her inappropriately” on the C-Train. The victim told the suspect to leave, and he exited the train at Victoria Park-Stampede Station, before he entered another northbound train at 4 Street SW Station in downtown. Police say the suspect’s journey started at Somerset-Bridlewood Station, but the suspect would get off and board another train at Fish Creek-Lacombe and Heritage Stations.[6]
